Abstract
Eugène Soubeiran (1797-1858) was a French pharmacist and physician, who worked on the chlorides of mercury, arsone, simple and compound tartrates, nitrogen sulfides, camphor and its derivatives, ether, and natural products. His main achievement was the discovery of chloroform, although he did not realize its use as anesthetic.
